96 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine Companion49% cabernet sauvignon, 48% merlot, 3% malbec, destemmed, open-fermented, 16 days on skins, matured in used hogsheads. The time Rob Hall spent at Mount Mary with John Middleton comes through loud and clear with this elegant and immaculately balanced wine. It is smooth as silk, with cassis fruit in the vanguard, fine tannins are there, but don't interrupt the conversation.
91 Points - Gary Walsh - The Wine FrontIt’s a bit smoky and reductive, but moving along there’s a core of boysenberry and blackcurrant, with a pleasant capsicum top note. Medium-bodied, juiciness of small dark berries, some smokiness, tobacco, grainy tannin, and a decent finish. Much to like here, though I’d rather it presented a little more cleanly.

How was it made?

Rob Hall's third release of a Bordeaux blend. Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (47%) and Malbec (3%) sourced from two vineyards north of Healesville. Inspired by the old school blends which made the Yarra Valley famous, but picked slightly riper for drinkability. Rich dark fruit, balanced oak and a more-ish palate. Enough structure to age gracefully.
