Chalice Bridge isn't one of the big, famous Margaret River winery names. But when they deliver wines like this, we sit and take notice.

Described by one critic as 'a beautifully composed and detailed Cabernet' this 95 point red is savoury, stylish and boy is it great drinking.

An elegant, well-made Margaret River red Cabernet drinking at its best.

Expert Reviews

95 Points - Sam Kim - Wine OrbitDelectable and seductive, this gorgeous rendition of the variety shows cassis, game, cedar and cigar aromas with hints of cocoa and truffle notes on the nose. It is superbly concentrated and expansive on the palate, and delivers excellent fruit richness together with stylish oak undertones and elegant complexity. A beautifully composed and detailed cabernet offering huge appeal.
90 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine CompanionThe colour is there or thereabouts, the light to medium-bodied palate with enough blackcurrant/cassis to join with - not be dominated by - brambly/savoury tannins and light French oak.

How's it taste?

The nose is full of dark cherry and blackcurrant, with lingering spicy notes. The palate is rich and intense with mulberries, raspberries and plums. Finely integrated with lovely cedary oak and a touch of dark chocolate, mocha and cigar notes. Great structure, length and wonderfully balanced acidity. The tannins are soft and silky.

How was it made?

Vintage 2015 started with wet and very windy conditions in Spring and early Summer. Cyclone Olwyn passing by the region brought more rain in Autumn with cooler night time temperatures. This had a positive result, extending the ripening period for red wine varieties quite nicely giving them more ‘hang time’ to enhance fruit development flavour profiles and deliver softer tannin levels. Fermented then matured in French Oak for 12 months. Filtered and fined prior to bottling.

Who made it?

Chalice Bridge is the second largest single vineyard in the world-renowned wine region of Margaret River. The Chalice Bridge name comes from the bridge over the Upper Chapman Brook, which runs through the middle of the vineyard. The vineyard was established two decades ago with current plantings now consisting of 29ha of Chardonnay, over 28ha of Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5ha of Semillon, 18ha of Sauvignon Blanc and 7.5ha of Merlot. Our quest for winemaking perfection, which ultimately leads to the Holy Grail, or in our case; The Chalice, is represented through the three tiers of wine we produce; The Estate, The Quest and ultimately (and only in select years) The Chalice.
