A label on the up, making a style that just looks more and more interesting every year.

Barossan Grenache has enjoyed a recent renaissance for a reason - with beautifully fragrant, red fruit drenched wines like this to show for it, you can completely understand the appeal.

A lovely fragrant red, with perfume aplenty and so much lovely vibrant fruit.

Expert Reviews

95 Points - Rob Geddes MWPerfumed and dense with layers of aroma starting roses on top of red fruits with a subtle green peppercorn and pepper tree aromas. Red currant and red rose, with jammy fruits on the middle palate and a very pleasing complex fruit intensity with musk stick (an Australian confectionary) intensity on the middle and lingers floral red fruits. A top example of the red fruit ripe style.
95 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine CompanionOpen-fermented, hand-plunged, matured in French puncheons (30% new) for six months. Bright clear crimson-purple; a very attractive grenache, its freshness and life exemplary, helped, of course, by the cool vintage. Red fruits fill the sense from start to finish.

How's it taste?

Wonderfully perfumed red fruits, dusted with spice. Heady florals give way to a warming palate of jubey red fruits, with fine-grained tannins and a spicy finish. Yum.

How was it made?

The Special Selections Grenache is sourced from a small block on the flat, deep, red soils of our Ebenezer Resurrection vineyard. While the Grenache Block was only planted in 2003, the vine selection has great pedigree; original cuttings from the Riebke family’s ancient ‘Prayer Garden’, so named because the 120 plus-year-old-vines grow on a 60cm high trellis, making pruners and pickers assume the ‘prayer’ kneeling position to do any work on the vines. This particular selection of Grenache is distinguished with its haunting purity and depth of flavour, showing the growing suitability of both the district, and more specifically, our Resurrection vineyard.

Who made it?

After managing a B&B in the south of France, Martin and Vivienne Rawlinson were inspired to establish St John’s Road in 2001, located in South Australia's Barossa Valley. St John's Road are inspired by the characters, the history and the vineyards of this great wine region, with a vision to produce full flavoured, yet elegant, wines which reflect the essence of the Barossa.
