Deep Woods bargain white really is over-delivery writ large and too good for these dollars. Just don't tell Julian and the Fogarty family at Deep Woods or the price will go up. Shhh.

This Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend is a typical Margaret River 'classic white', with a combination of herbaceous Sauv characters with the lime citrus of Semillon. Well held and well done - little wonder that it won a trophy.

How's it taste?

Very pale in colour with brilliant green hues. A punchy and vibrant nose exhibiting aromas of lime and guava laced with lemon blossom. Intense, juicy citrus, lemongrass and passion fruit flavours instantly fill the mouth. ‘Crunchy’ acidity adds complexity and provides a refreshing backbone to the wine.

How was it made?

Ivory is a classic blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc produced from both select growers and Deep Woods Estate-grown fruit. The 2018 vintage was, in a word, outstanding. The growing season was steady and moderate, without spikes of heat seen in previous years. The aromatic varieties of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc performed exceptionally well across the region with vibrant, pristine fruit and racy, natural acidity. This wine is comprised of Semillon from the northern part of the region where it achieved full ripeness, and Sauvignon Blanc, from the very south of Margaret River where the most exuberant fruit was found.

Who made it?

Deep Woods Estate was founded in the northern end of the beautiful Margaret River region of W.A in 1987. It changed hands in 1992 when the Gould family purchased the winery, and was sold again in 2005. Today, it is part of the Fogarty Wine Group (they also own Lakes Folly, Millbrook and Smithbrook wines). The property nests on a ridge overlooking a sea of Jarrah and Marri trees, hence the name Deep Woods. It boasts 16 hectares of sustainably-managed, low-yielding vineyards segregated into 12 blocks planted to Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Winemaker Julian Langworthy employs traditional and state-of-the-art techniques to craft small batches of wines of impeccable quality under several different labels. The Deep Woods Reserve label is the ultra-premium range made entirely from estate-grown fruit. The Estate range brings beautiful varietal character and vibrancy while offering excellent value for money, whilst the Ebony, Ivory and Harmony label uses estate and locally sourced fruit. Stylistically they range from complex, zesty, nutty Chardonnays through to cassis and chocolate Cabernet Sauvignons displaying Margaret River typicity.
