Peter Lehmann's affordable Shiraz continues to be a handy drink, showing that the recipe for good Barossa Shiraz is simple - lots of rich fruit, sweet oak and a whole lotta heart.
Expert Reviews
Ever reliable and in good form with its core of dark plum fruit, woodsy-oak influenced spices, Dutch licorice, salt bush and more in between. Fuller-bodied, concentrated flavours on the palate but all stitched well together with dense slightly drying tannins.
Subtle notes of cinnamon streusel mark the nose of the 2016 Portrait Shiraz. Medium to full-bodied, it's a simple, cherry-fruited wine that more than adequately satisfies the itch for a plush, ripe red.

How's it taste?
This Barossa Shiraz is a deep purple edged with ripe cherry hues. The wine offers a complex bouquet of spiced red berries blended with sweet vanilla and chocolate. A full-bodied, richly flavoured wine, this Shiraz has an abundance of ripe forest fruit flavours, rounded out with mocha undertones and soft velvety tannins.
How was it made?
The Portrait range embodies the original promise made to the grape growers to make wine that paints a portrait of our home, the Barossa Valley – to showcase the region with this delicious range of wines. Portrait Shiraz is made from fruit from more than 60 growers, to deliver a rich and generous wine and soft finish.
Who made it?
In 1979 Peter Lehmann parted ways with Saltram to start Masterson Wines, the company which has since evolved into Peter Lehmann Wines, in a move solely designed to help the growers he had built relationships with over the years. Peter took the surplus grapes and doing business on a handshake sold wine on a “pay now and we’ll deliver in two years” arrangement called ‘The Futures’. This raised enough money to buy the growers’ fruit and process it into what became the first ever vintage of Peter Lehmann wine in 1980. Today the winemaking team at Peter Lehmann have a collective winemaking mentality defined by former chief winemaker and mentor, Andrew Wigan. Over the years there has been a natural evolution within the team but the approach has remained the same; consistency and a continuous strive for perfection. "We are always looking for ways to make better wine. To never rest on our laurels. There is a strong sense of pride and tradition that surround our wines.” Tim Dolan, Senior Winemaker
