Expert Reviews
It’s back, last seen in the 2013 vintage. Rich and ripe, blackberry and blackcurrant of sweetness and intensity, mint chocolate, wheat, a little truffle and spice. Medium-bodied, dense and packed with thick ripe tannin, ripe raspberry and more savoury black olive and sundried tomato flavours. Finish is matted with ripe tannin and carries long. FD fans will be most pleased.

How's it taste?
Attractive aromas of native undergrowth alongside clove, anise, pepper and floral notes. The palate is rich and ripe with a milky texture and flavours of blood plum and blackberry confit.
How was it made?
Good rainfalls occurred in winter and spring, with moderate soil moisture for the growing season ahead. Spring as per usual serving up a slight frost during the first week of November reducing yields. The Estate showed healthy canopy heading into summer. January and February were warm and dry months, leading into early harvest in April to produce a deliciously generous complex Shiraz - bursting with deep aromatics and flavours. In the garage the hand harvested Shiraz fruit was gently destemmed, including 20% whole bunch into open top milk vats and fermented naturally with soft pump overs. Then basket pressed to barrel to complete ferment. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Who made it?
Torzi Matthews is a food and winemaking partnership between Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews which began in 1996 when they stumbled across a small, frost-pocketed hollow in the beautiful Mt McKenzie, Eden Valley and fell in love with the area for its remoteness and its diverse thin soils. Domenic and Tracey run the winery with one guiding principal: that their land produce low yields of fruit which in turn translate into flavoursome European style wines – the style of wines needed to match their Mediterranean heritage and food.
