Andrew Leembruggen's Hunter Valley Shiraz shows the benefits of old vines and an experienced winemaker.

From a block planted back in the 60s comes a polished, ripe and luscious Hunter Valley Shiraz of weight and power. Luscious, yet not over the top.

High quality modern Hunter.

Expert Reviews

95 Points - David Bicknell - Halliday's Wine CompanionFrom the '65 Barry Drayton-planted Hillside Vineyard. Very dark purple red and bright. Fresh aromas of raspberry pip, black- and red currants and wet red earth. It's very much medium-bodied, with soft savoury tannins and a just-right acidity. Old vines, carefully made. A winning combo.
94 Points - Gary Walsh - The Wine FrontIt’s just pup at present, or so it feels. Dark cherry, aniseed, a bit of Hunter earth in play, and some spicy biscuit oak and rosy perfume. Medium-bodied, raspberry ripple juiciness, fine grained chalky tannin, toasty and savoury elements, bright and slightly tangy acidity, firm finish of fine length that puts me in mind of Central Otago Pinot, for whatever reason. Leave it alone for a few years to get the best out of it.
90 Points - Huon HookeDeep, bright red/purple colour. The bouquet is fresh and mineral, cherry-like with background spices. It's full-bodied but lean and nervy and mineral on the palate, with stony, crushed-rock nuances. The wine is soft and fruity, fleshy and elegant on the tongue.

How's it taste?

Raspberry, a little earthiness, liquorice, subtle oak gives some spice and vanilla. Medium bodied, blackberry and raspberry, good volume of flavour, light grainy tannin, and a solid, slightly saline, finish. Steady as she goes. Attractive and good value. A bit more bottle age will see it settle and improve.
