2016 Domaines Schlumberger Pinot Gris Les Prince Abbes

Recommendations
Amidst the flurry of interest for Pinot Gris in recent years, it has been interesting that great Alsace Pinot Gris has been rather forgotten.
So let's dive back in with an absolute archetypal wine. Domaines Schlumberger's wine is impossibly rich and textural, with layers of musk and honey on a soft and gentle palate.
Incredibly more-ish white wine.

How's it taste?
The nose is lifted and pleasant with good intensity. Rich and ripe yellow fruits, golden apple, quince, and a characteristic smokiness. The off-dry palate is textural and luscious, with a voluminous, mouth-filling energy and drive. Wonderfully ripe fruits balanced by a clear and linear acidity that focuses the wine through to the finish. Stunning.
How was it made?
Primarily produced in the named locality of Schimberg situated in the valley of Guebwiller, on a volcanic subsoil, our Pinot Gris benefits from a full South exposure.
Slow pneumatic pressing, static racking. Fermentation in thermo-regulated tuns for 1 to 4 months. Maturation on lees from 6 to 8 months.
Who made it?
Domaines Schlumberger is a family vineyard established in 1810. Nowadays, it is run by two generations working side by side for a better handover: Alain Beydon-Schlumberger, 6th generation, Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger, 7th generation. All of their wines are estate-grown and produced on site. With an exceptional location, situated on the steep hillsides of the Vosges, the vineyard benefits from the best exposures; Its slopes can reach 50°. Because of the Vineyard’s topography and the soil composition the yields are much lower than average for the region : 45 hl/ha for the entire Domaine. Even today, all vineyard work is carried out with teams of horses, who can navigate the steep slopes. 30 hectares are farmed biodynamically, to ensure great quality wines for the future generations.
