This is seriously one of our favourite bargain reds in the building - a world beating wine so good it is also the most popular for staff at Friday night drinks, and that says a lot... A beautifully supple and savoury style - cranberry, leather, meat, earth and spice all in an easy drinking package. Stunning value and not to be missed for fans of a cheeky French red.

This is impressively fruited and expressed on the nose showing dark plum, blueberry, thyme, floral and toasted almond characters. The palate is succulent and plump, delivering excellent fruit intensity and rounded mouthfeel, finishing long and silky. A gorgeous modern style.'

How's it taste?
A classic blend of Syrah and Grenache, this wine comes from a wine producer that goes all the way back to 1803! This red is an absolute beauty too - a spicy red that has that juiciness we see in Aussie Shiraz Grenache, yet with this meaty savoury edge. It's just like taking your palate on a French holiday! Barton & Guestier are historically better known for Bordeaux than wines from the Rhone, but this Cotes du Rhone just nails the brief of what a good Syrah Grenache blend should taste like.
How was it made?
Classified Appellation Côtes du Rhône Contrôlée, sourced from the Southern Rhone, between Motelimar and Avignon. Made from 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan. The climate is mediterranean, with high temperatures and exceptional sun. Vinified using de-stalked grapes, daily rack and return and then aging on lees with controlled oxidation. Low yields, hand tending, careful selection and minimal interference in the natural ripening of the grapes.
Who made it?
It was in 1725 that Irishman Thomas Barton settled in Bordeaux to start his company, which is today the city’s oldest winehouse still in activity. His grandson Hugh teamed up with Frenchman Daniel Guestier and in 1802 their partnership became official. From the Chartrons area in the center of Bordeaux, barrels and bottles were loaded on board of ships that sailed via the Garonne river to numerous countries, starting with Ireland, England, Holland and the USA to reach over 130 countries at present. The Barton & Guestier range represents the wonderful diversity of French wines from the main winegrowing regions: Bordeaux, Loire Valley, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Rhône Valley, Languedoc, Gascony and Corsica.
