The Baron. The legend. A proudly full-bodied Barossan red that showcases that wonderful power that the region is known for.

Made a real Barossa supergroup (there is even Alexander Downer, not that he makes any wine. But Stephen Henschke, Colin Glaetzer et al. make up for it). Luscious, dense and so very rich red wine that will live for years.

Expert Reviews

94 Points - Sam Kim - Wine OrbitThis is gorgeously expressed on the nose showing blackberry, dark plum, chocolate tart, cedar and mixed spice aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that is plump and fleshy. The wine offers terrific fruit richness and intensity, superbly framed by silky tannins, finishing impressively long and delectable. At its best: now to 2024. AU$27.00. April 2018.

How's it taste?

Lifted aromas of blackberry, earth and coffee follow onto a palate of juicy cassis, dark plum and spice. Fine grained tannins combine with refreshing acidity on the finish.

How was it made?

The Barons of Barossa wine fraternity was founded in 1975 and makes up many of the top producers in the Barossa including Elderton, Henschke, Kalleske, Glaetzer Wines, Kaesler Wines and Yalumba, to name a few. This wine is made exclusively by the Barons for The Wine Collective from some of their finest fruit parcels.

This is Barossa Valley Shiraz, matured in American and French oak barrels and made for extended ageing.

Who made it?

The wine fraternity Barons of Barossa was founded in 1975 by a group of well-known Barossa wine industry personalities. George Kolarovich (Barossa Co-operative, Kaiser Stuhl) was elected as the first Grand Master. Other founding Barons were Wyndham Hill-Smith (Yalumba), Colin Gramp (Orlando), Bill Seppelt (Seppelts), Sir Condor Laucke, Bruce Hoffmann, Peter Lehmann and Cyril Henschke. The current Grand Master is Stephen Henschke. The Fraternity is administered by the Grand Council which is elected biennially. Membership of the Fraternity is by invitation and is offered to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the Barossa. New Barons are inducted into the Fraternity in a colourful ceremony and membership is for life. The focus of the Barons of Barossa has remained unchanged since its foundation and it continues to proudly and enthusiastically support Barossa wine, viticulture, gastronomy, heritage and the arts. Today the Barons of Barossa are a recognised part of the fabric of Barossa culture and continue to play an important philanthropic and symbolic role. The Barons' motto is "Glory to Barossa".
